TalkingChina participated in and hosted the launch of the new book “Translation Techniques that Everyone Can Use” and the Language Model Empowerment Salon event

On the evening of February 28, 2025, the book launch event for "Translation Technologies that Everyone Can Use" and the Language Model Empowerment Translation Education Salon were successfully held. Ms. Su Yang, the General Manager of Tangneng Translation Company, was invited to serve as the event host, kicking off this industry grand event.

This event is jointly organized by Intellectual Property Publishing House, Shenzhen Yunyi Technology Co., Ltd., and Interpretation Technology Research Community, attracting nearly 4000 university teachers, students, and industry practitioners to explore the transformation of the translation ecosystem and educational innovation path under the wave of generative AI. At the beginning of the event, Ms. Su Yang briefly introduced the background of the event. She pointed out that the development of big model technology is profoundly affecting the translation ecology, and has put forward higher requirements for practitioners on how to adapt. At this point in time, Teacher Wang Huashu's book appears particularly timely and appropriate. It is very necessary and valuable to take advantage of the opportunity presented by the release of this new book to further explore the opportunities and challenges brought by new technologies.

In the theme sharing session, Ding Li, Chairman of Yunyi Technology, gave a special presentation titled "The Impact of Large Language Models on the Translation Industry". She emphasized that the big language model has brought unprecedented opportunities and challenges to the translation industry, and the translation industry should actively explore its application in practice to improve translation efficiency and quality. Professor Li Changshuan, Vice Dean of the School of Translation at Beijing Foreign Studies University, elaborated on the limitations of AI translation in dealing with flaws in the original text through case analysis, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking for human translators.

The protagonist of the new book released that evening, Professor Wang Huashu, the author of the book "Translation Technology that Everyone Can Use", a translation technology expert, and a professor from the School of Translation at Beijing Foreign Studies University, introduced the framework of the new book's concept from the perspective of reshaping the boundary between technology and human communication, and analyzed the essential issues of technology development and technology ubiquity, emphasizing the human-machine collaboration mode of "human in the loop". This book not only systematically explores the integration of AI and translation, but also reveals new opportunities and challenges for language and translation work in the new era. The book covers multiple fields such as desktop search, web search, intelligent data collection, document processing, and corpus processing, and incorporates generative artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT. It is a highly forward-looking and practical translation technology guide. The publication of "Translation Techniques that Everyone Can Use" is an important attempt by Professor Wang Huashu to popularize translation technology. He hopes to break the technological barrier and bring translation technology into everyone's life through this book.

In an era where technology is ubiquitous (Professor Wang proposed the concept of "ubiquitous technology"), technology has become a part of our living environment and infrastructure. Everyone can use technology, and everyone must learn it. The question is which technology to learn? How can we learn more easily? This book will provide a solution for practitioners and learners in all language industries.

TalkingChina-2

TalkingChina has a profound understanding of translation technology and industry changes. We are well aware that new technologies such as big language models have brought tremendous opportunities to the translation industry. TalkingChina actively uses advanced translation technology tools and platforms (including AI simultaneous interpreting technology) to improve translation productivity and quality; On the other hand, we adhere to high value-added services such as creative translation and writing. At the same time, we will deeply cultivate the professional vertical fields that TalkingChina excels in, consolidate our ability to deliver translations in minority languages, and provide more and better multilingual services for Chinese overseas enterprises. In addition, actively participating in new service formats arising from technology in the language service industry, such as language consulting, language data services, international communication, and new value creation points for overseas services.

At the beginning of this year, TalkingChina has also communicated with a large number of translators. Many translators actively expressed that instead of being anxious about being replaced, it is better to use AI well, manage AI well, optimize AI well, kick the "doorstep kick" well, walk the last mile, and become the person who turns stone into gold, the ferryman who injects professional soul into AI translation.

We firmly believe that only by combining technology with humanities can sustainable development be achieved in the translation industry of the new era. In the future, TalkingChina will continue to explore the application of new technologies in translation practice, promote industry technological innovation and talent cultivation, and contribute more to the high-quality development of the translation industry.
